Carers Contact Centre

Carers Contact is an information resource in Newport Market, High Street, funded by Newport City Council for the benefit of the carer and the cared for. Please download our information leaflet (pdf)

A carer is someone who provides informal care to a relative or friend who because of disability, sickness or frailty is unable to live at home without support.

The Carers Contact stall in the Market has leaflets covering a wide range of subjects including carers' assessments, benefits, support groups, health and travelling.

If you are unable to come to the Market we will be pleased to give information by telephone on (01633) 258376 or email carers@gavowales.org.uk

Carers Strategy for Wales

The Carers Strategy for Wales Action Plan 2007 (or Welsh Version) sets out the strategic direction for carers together with the specific action points that will help achieve the objectives over the next few years.
Newport Carers Strategy 2008 - 2011 (pdf) provides information about carers and the work they do in supporting friends and relatives in Newport.
The Carers Information Booklet (pdf) has been produced by a multi agency group including carers to assist carers and to provide them with helpful guidance and information to support them in their caring role.
If you look after someone, we may be able to offer support. Complete our download Carers Assessment Form to apply for an assessment.

Department of Work & Pensions - Outreach Session

A representative from the DWP visits the Carers Contact every 3 months to help with enquiries about Attendance Allowance, Disability Living Allowance and Carers' Allowance
You are welcome to attend for help with your enquiries. Contact us using the details at the end of this page for information about the next visit.
Emergency Card for Carers
A new partnership between Newport City Council, Gwent Association of Voluntary Organisations, Telecare Service and the Carers Contact
Carers Contact had concerns that if a carer should be involved in an accident, how could anyone be informed that the cared for person would need assistance.
Please see our Emergency Card (pdf) leaflet for further information.
Carers Assessment

You may be entitled to a Carers Assessment (pdf). This would provide you with an opportunity to talk to a Social Worker about your needs as a carer. To receive a Carers Assessment, please contact the Social Work Services Duty Team by calling into the Corn Exchange, High Street, Newport or by telephoning 01633 656656
