The Newport
Communities First Overarching Partnership Board, or Newport
C1st OAPB, has been established since the first Communities
First areas were announced in 2002. Its purpose is to
provide a framework of support that will enable communities
to prepare and manage their individual action plans by
creating a forum in which the communities and service
providers can come together to make decisions concerning
service provision and funding. It will assist in identifying
needs, pinpointing problems and designing the delivery of
local services to address them. It is recognised that this
will demand a high level of commitment, accountability and
endeavour from all stakeholders and the Newport C1st OAPB
strives to provide the framework that will support it.

A key aspect of
the role of the Newport C1st OAPB is to develop and maintain
strong working relationships with the key agencies and
strategic partnerships in Newport in order to bring about
lasting change in the C1st communities.
The Partnership
will also be able contribute early to the formulation and
the discussion on the options for policy development,
strategic planning and monitoring of performance.

sustainable communities, and encourage C1st areas to thrive
and become places in which residents can take pride and
where people want to live, work and do business by ensuring
the effective use of resources and services.
