THE VOLUNTARY SECTOR NETWORK FOR GROUPS WORKING WITH CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE IN NEWPORT

The Voluntary Sector Support Co-ordinator works for Gwent Association of Voluntary Organisations in collaboration with the Newport Children and Young People's Partnership (NCYPP). Her role is to support any voluntary sector organisation working with children and young people (0-25 years) in Newport.

The Support Co-ordinator has set up a network called HYPE (Helping Young People Excel), consisting of these voluntary groups, which meets bi-monthly, to co-ordinate, develop and strengthen voluntary sector participation in the planning and delivery of services to children, young people and families.

Network meetings are open to any voluntary group working with children and young people whatever their field. They will provide the opportunity to find out what is happening in the NCYPP, other Partnerships and the Welsh Government, and to take issues and concerns of the sector to the NCYPP.

Network meetings enable those working in these groups to find out how decisions are made regarding services to children and young people and to influence that decision-making process. Furthermore, information and experiences can be shared amongst groups in order for the voluntary sector to have a more co-ordinated approach. A directory of voluntary organisations has also been published which can have details of your organisation added. Meetings are held bi-monthly at the YMCA, Mendalgief Road.

The diagram below shows how HYPE is linked in to the Newport Children and Young People's Partnership whose purpose is to improve services for children and young people. There is:
