Mental Health Development Service

The Mental Health Development Service is made up of two Mental Health Development Officers who work across Gwent providing a variety of services to people in the community.

The Mental Health Development Service provides monthly and Pan Gwent Service User and Carer Forums.  The forums are led by Service Users and Carers so they decide which speakers they would like to provide them with relevant information.

What does the service provide?

We co-ordinate network meetings for local voluntary sector mental health providers, i.e. Mind, Hafal, Journeys, Gofal Cymru, MDF The Bipolar Organisation, Women's Aid, Solas Cymru, etc. This allows them to network, exchange information, discuss funding bids and discuss any difficulties their services are facing.

We help small self-help groups to become legally constituted voluntary organisations, helping to set-up bank accounts and applying for charitable funding to help run their group.

We give advice on the development of small support groups.

We give assistance with training needs of voluntary sector organisations.

We empower people who currently use mental health services or have used mental health services in the past, to participate in the planning and development of mental health services.

We co-ordinate a service user involvement forum for this.

We provide information about mental illness and signpost people to appropriate mental health service providers.
