Young Asylum Seekers Support Service - Newport

Hi, I'm Emma Small and I would like to introduce myself as the Young Asylum Seeker Support Worker. My remit is the whole of Newport, and one of the ultimate goals of the service is to support and promote the asylum seeker and refugee community in Newport.

• To support asylum seeking families, with a focus on children and young people, in their new lives in Newport.
• Encourage participation in mainstream activities and inclusion into the host community.
• Assist young people in developing friendships and support networks, increase their self esteem and confidence levels.
• Educate the host community in relation to asylum seeker / refugee issues.

• Through the provision of one to one support to young people and their families.
• Group activities and events organised and attended by the young people.
• Support plan implementation.
• Sign posting to other organisations.
• Facilitating awareness raising workshops.
• Advocacy for individuals.
